In the vast history of sports, there have been many teams. Some good, some bad, and some great. Here, I will rank the top 10 greatest teams of all time.
This ranking is by Kyle Colman and it does not reflect the opinions of the other writers of this site.
How will I rank these teams?
1. They must have won a championship in their respective sports.
2. They must have dominated their sport in that given year.
3. It must be a team sport, no individual sports like: tennis or golf.
4. Team must be known worldwide.
Without further ado, number 6:
The 1927 New York Yankees
The team went 111-44, winning the AL Pennant by 19 games. They would go on to sweep the World Series. Never before has the team been as dominant as these Yankees.
They were known as Murderers' Row, a nickname that came in part because of the first six batters in the lineup. They batted an average of .307 and scored 975 runs. Their offense was incredible, outscoring their opponents 975 to 376, a record.
Center fielder Earle Combs batted a .356 with 64 RBIs.
Right fielder Babe Ruth batted a .356 with 60 home runs and 164 RBIs.
1st Baseman Lou Gehrig batted a .373 with 47 home runs and 175 RBIs.
2nd Baseman Tony Lazzeri batted a .309 with 102 RBIs.
While their offense was perfection, their pitching wasn't too bad either. Waite Hoyt and Herb Pennock went 22-7 and 19-8, respectively. The pitching staff had the lowest ERA in the majors that year, a 3.20.
This team would eventually send six players to the Hall of Fame and a team into the annals of history.
Stay tuned for Number 5.
